News Innovative Motorsailer "MITseaAH" Launched When the 48-meter (156-ft) superyacht "MITseaAH" fired up her engines in July, 2004, she quickly sped into the record books. Never before had a sailing superyacht broken through the displacement barrier under power, but, due to innovative design thinking and clever engineering by Pedrick Yacht Designs, this new motorsailer exceeded 22 knots on her first day at sea. Beginning with a hullform derived from planing sailboats, PYD blended the requirements of motoring and sailing by adding features for motoring to what we already knew would be fast under sail. The opposite needs of a deep keel and rudders for sailing and shallow ones for motoring were met by incorporating retractable appendages. Many other technical challenges were met to achieve what no one had ever done before - put high performance into a luxury motorsailer.
